Andrea Hutchinson, Psy.D., LP

Dr. Andrea Hutchinson understands that seeking out help and letting someone into your personal world can be hard; therefore, she takes time to empathically get to know you and your family. Dr. Andrea Hutchinson works with children, adolescents, and families, as well as with adult women.

With children, Dr. Andrea Hutchinson integrates talk, play, and art therapy into her sessions to help children process and organize their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Dr. Andrea Hutchinson will work with you and your family collaboratively and sensitively to develop treatment goals and then uses treatment techniques that are interpersonally and developmentally based to help you and your child work toward your personalized goals. In addition to working with your child individually, she does family therapy to work on the interactions within your family system and parenting sessions to help you learn more about your child’s difficulties, what is developmentally typical, and how their past experiences may be impacting their current symptoms.

Dr. Andrea Hutchinson specializes in working with children, adolescents, and their families who are experiencing emotional and behavioral symptoms. Dr. Hutchinson has experience with a variety of client backgrounds and symptoms, such as: anxiety, depression, trauma responses, inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, defiance, social skills deficits, loss, difficulties coping with changes, and low frustration tolerance.

Dr. Andrea Hutchinson also works with adult women who are experiencing anxiety, depression, and/or other mental health distress. Sometimes these symptoms are related to a precipitating event (such as a divorce, work related stress, or loss of a loved one); whereas other times, these symptoms may be longstanding.

Dr. Andrea Hutchinson earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Minnesota and her Master’s and Doctoral degrees at the University of Saint Thomas in Counseling Psychology. She completed her pre-doctoral internship and is in her post-doctoral fellowship at Washburn Center for Children.
